Saturday, I got to Jordyn's place at 11am on the dot. I came with my heaps of cans and apples, as well as some cookies that were the life of the party if we’re being real here. Everyone was able to come for this filming session, so things had turned out perfect in this way. I was first to show up so I started by suggesting things we could prepare for the actor. I suggested we print a couple copies of our script so we wouldn’t have to constantly pull it up on our phones. That helped a lot when we had to get lines quick, I didn’t have to fumble with my phone for anything other than the storyboard. Speaking of that, it was helpful to at least have the storyboard open in a google doc in my phone whenever my team needed it. I helped out by reading off each next scene from our storyboard when filming so we knew how to set up our tripod. The other thing I would give our actor was the angle we will be shooting from, as this assignment required many angles. I would also show them the time allotted for every scene, and I would hold up a timer on my phone to ensure our actor keeps track. If I didn’t have it on my phone, I wholeheartedly just held my fingers up and counted this way, relaying how many seconds it took after stopping recording each and every time. Before this filming stuff though, once Yaneli arrived, As Nicole came later, we started on setting up the scene as needed with cans, the computer, the messy bowl, and apple. I made timely judgements on what should be changed in our scene because our filming location is different than what our original one was supposed to be. As our filming day went though, I helped cut clips and make decisions on how things should be done within each clip, especially when we would sit all the clips next to each other in iMovie to see what this could potentially look like. A memorable scene for me was definitely filming the trash can scene. In this scene, our actor tosses the apple in his hand because it was “a nasty fake apple” like in our script. I intentionally painted this apple brown, green, and yellow to make it look moldy when it was tossed, and it worked very well. In the shot itself, however, you could barely see the color of the apple or any small details because everything was going so fast. I found the task I did to be a bit of a waste of time, so if we have to refilm it, I won’t bother painting. With this scene, we took multiple shots of me tossing an apple onto Jordy’s phone to make it seem like a pov shot of the trash. Our equipment also became a problem at times, so I helped to fix anything that needed it or aided by putting extra tape on things falling, like the mic taped to our tripod. The only serious equipment issue we encountered was that during a scene we filmed that we really liked and wanted to use, we noticed that a spare tripod was on the counter. This made the scene no use to us, having our equipment visible is a big nono. After this we filmed the stair shot outside. I helped clean the stairs before putting down the carpet. with the carpet set down, I smoothed it against the stairs so it looks secure enough and we filmed that shot, it was a perfect run through. After we finished our scenes for the day we ate and people began going home. While I waited for a ride I edited the clips together with a team member, giving my critiques along the way when asked. After viewing all of our clips together, there was a lot of discontinuity and nothing in it looked fluid. It became apparent that we would need to refilm so much of it next time, but now we know exactly what we need to do and how to execute it perfectly the second time. I’m looking forward to our next filming day, this project will be unmatched!
